Motown

KGB

KGBThe Lowdown: “Motown is forever,” says Gerald Foster, one of just a few Motown tribute bands working in metro Detroit. The Lineup: Multi-instrumentalist and bandleader Foster plays live keyboards and triggers via laptop tracks he recorded and mixed to re-create Motown hits. Glenn McFarland is the baritone, Keith Dotson and Bruce Sims tenors. The Sound: The music is straight-up Motown with an electronic base. Dotson, McFarland and Sims produce three-part harmonies effortlessly and with a lot of love. You’ll hear a healthy sampling of Motown hits and other pop songs. It’s the show stopping Temps-n-Tops medley, though that knocks ’em out every time. The Moves: While not lifted directly from their originators, the men’s dance moves are energetic and evocative of the era. Their matching suits, in vibrant colors (selected by Dotson), and Harris’ sparkling coordinated costumes are also reminiscent of the originals. Don’t be surprised when audience members get up and start dancing, too. The Name: There’s nothing sinister here; it’s simply the first letters of each male vocalist’s first name, in catchy order.

Larry Lee and the Back in the Day Band

Larry Lee

Larry Lee, who played Professional Football with The Detroit Lions, The Miami Dolphins and Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos, formed the “Back In The Day Band”. In 1993 Larry transitioned from the football field to the front office and became a Vice-President for the Detroit Lions till 2001. After leaving the Lions, he decided to take his second love-playing playing bass – and make it his new career. The “Back In The Day Band” that Larry assembled is comprised of some of the finest musicians around. They feature former members of The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Spinners, The Dramatics, The Contours, and The Funk Brothers. The “Back In The Day Band” plays a mix of cover songs and originals that span R&B, Funk, Pop, Soul, Blues, Hip-Hop, Disco, and even Rock. If you can move and groove to it, they can play it. The “Back in the Day Band” makes Detroit rock.

The Prolifics
The Prolifics

Performing for more than 30 years, our story begins like so many others- five adolescent young men singing a cappella on the street corners of Detroit. Over the years, while honing our skills, we have become known for our vocal harmonies, timed-choreography and high-energy. Our repertoire of music proudly represents a composite of the groups that inspired the legacy of Motown, Sounds of Philadelphia and many others. Singing songs by the Temptations, the Spinners, the Four Tops, the Dells, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, the Jackson Five, the Contours, the Drifters, Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, the O’Jays, the Dramatics, Stevie Wonder, Barry White, etc. Our years of experience at entertainment venues, casinos, weddings, community festivals and charity events can truly be appreciated once we hit the stage.
